Bangladesh is currently experiencing significant political and social unrest following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024. This development occurred after weeks of widespread protests, primarily led by students, which resulted in numerous casualties and widespread chaos. The abrupt transition to an interim government has exacerbated tensions, raising concerns about the rise of fundamental radicalism, particularly with the involvement of the banned Islamic party, Jamaat.

The situation has become increasingly dangerous for minority groups, including Christians and Hindus. According to  National Director for Bangladesh EHC, several Christian organizations, churches and homes have been targeted in a wave of violence. Many pastors and evangelists, who play a crucial role in community support and outreach, have been forced into hiding or compelled to flee due to direct threats and attacks.

The escalation of violence has led to significant destruction of property and the safety of ministry workers and their families remains a primary concern. Churches have been vandalized and the overall atmosphere is one of fear and uncertainty.

EHC Bangladesh is closely coordinating with military authorities to ensure the safety of its workers. Precautionary measures have been implemented and pastors have been advised to remain vigilant.

In light of these events, we urgently request prayers for:

  • Peace and stability in Bangladesh.
  • Protection and strength for our ministry workers, pastors and their families.
  • Safety for all minority groups affected by the violence.
  • Wisdom for leaders overseeing the transitional government.

Your prayers and support are crucial as we navigate this challenging situation.
