Discipleship is at the heart of the Christian faith, embodying the call to follow Jesus and live according to His teachings. It is a journey of transformation, where believers grow in their relationship with Christ and learn to reflect His love and grace in their daily lives. Teaching discipleship is crucial for nurturing mature, committed Christians who can impact the world for God’s kingdom.

Every Home has visited Albury for a two-day discipleship workshop at which there were speakers on how best to not only teach discipleship but also how to be a true disciple. I conducted a School of Prayer session based on Dick Eastman’s work.

Why is Discipleship Important? For me, it provides:

Spiritual growth, Church growth through small groups, mentorship and church activities, Mission and Evangelism as discipleship equips believers to share the gospel effectively and Personal Transformation which is a testament to the power of the Holy Spirit and serves as a witness to others.

Understanding and living out the teachings of Jesus empowers Christians to witness to others, fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Discipleship ensures that the message of Christ is passed on to future generations.

Finally, let’s not forget worship and prayer which are essential components of discipleship. Church worship services, prayer meetings and personal prayer times help believers connect with God. These practises foster a deeper spiritual life and reliance on God’s guidance.

This month the message is about teaching discipleship which is vital for the physical growth and theological health of the Church. By employing various methods such as biblical teaching, mentorship, small growth groups, service, worship and practical application, the church can effectively disciple believers and empower them to live out their faith and so carry Christ to everyone, everywhere and every generation (C2E3).
